The theater grew up and brought up several generations of talented actors, master-puppeteers, producers, artists, most of them are dedicated to the theater’s puppet art for years.

The names of the people who contributed to its creative formation will always remain in the history of the Theater: producers Y. Rutkovskiy, P.Pashkov,L.Lengorskaya, V.Gorenberg; talented actors N.Tregubenko, Sh.Kadyrov, T.Mayskaya; Honoured artists of Kazakhstan B.Slonov, B.Parmanov, chief producer and art director A.Mikhailov and P.Potoroka, national artist of the RK S.Shukurov and S.Kabiguzhina.

Kazakh-Russian troupes have been working during the formation of the theater.
First producers of puppet performances “Aldar Kose” and  “Otegen batyr” were leading actors of the Kazakh Dramatic Theater K.Batyrov, S.Telgarayev; A.Fedortchenko, A.Ancharov, who completed special courses of puppet-producing and invited puppet masters D.Lipman and O. Tarasova.  Composers L.Khamidi and B.Yerzakovitch worked on music recording of earliest performances.

The Theater repertoire had been replenishing with new performances, performed by Pushkin’s tales and classical authors’ creations: “O mertvoi tsarevne”(“About dead Tsarevna”), “O Tsare Saltane” (“About Tsar Saltan”), “Volshebnaya lampa Alladina” (“Alladin’s magic lamp”).

Theater’s activity is targeted at young generation’s upbringing in patriotic spirit, humanism and friendship among nations. Producers, talented artists, actors and experienced puppet-masters contribute today a lot in theater’s development. Their outstanding creative deserts have left remarkable imprint on history of national puppet art, names of  Honored artists K.Yeshmuratov, S.Abueva, L.Pechorina , actors V.Berkin, K.Ilyasova, D.Beisembaev, principal painter L. Sviridenko, painter E.Yashnev,  director-producer S.Makulbekov – are owners of honorable symbol of Ministry of Culture of RK “Madeniet Kairatkety”(“Cultural figure”).

The theater holds a conversation with growing up generation about eternal life values, making work and positively influencing on children’s souls.  Repertoire politics of the theater is made on this basis.
The Theater premieres are highly evaluated by audience and embellish Almaty playbill.  There are 18 performances in Kazakh and Russian languages in the current repertoire of the theater.   
The main basis of the repertoire is tale – folk and literary, oriental and foreign.  Performances such as “Tal kolenkesi”(“Tree shade”), “Ak kus turali anyz”(“Tale about white bird”), “Altynshash”, “Balabek”, “Volshebnaya lampa Alladina”(“Alladin’s magic lamp”)  by “Tysyacha i odna notch”, and  newly performed  plays by the author N.Orazalin since 2003 till 2006: “Atameken”(“Motherland”),  “Prazdnik prodolzhaetsa”(“Celebration goes on”), “Legenda o Rodine”(“Legend about motherland”), “Kurmagazy”, “Kieli alma”(“Sacred apple”), “Akku  Zhibek”, “Morozko”, “Ded Moroz i Leto”(“Santa Clause and summer”), Ush torgai”(“Three sparrows”), “Sotkar buzau”(“Naughty culf”) are of great success, because they touch upon themes of kindness, heroism, justice, friendship and ethical issues of the present times.
In 2005 the new play “Kanbak shal”(“Small old man”) has been performed by the authors I.Karnaukhova ans L.Brausevich by Kazakh folk tale, “Alenkiy tsvetochec”(“Scarlet flower”) play has been renewed.

On the occasion of 60 years of the 2nd World War Victory “Soldatskiy kotelok” (“Tale about soldier’s mess-tin”) staging was performed by the authors Z.Sagalov and L.Zhadanov.  
Absolute success of the theater is considered to be the performance staged by Sergey Trapani, the producer of Russian State Academic Puppet Theater after S.Obraztsov, musical play “Bolshie prikluycheniya malenkogo lyagushonka” (“Big adventures of small frog”) by the tail of modern Kazakh writer Elina Bystritskaya “Odnazhdy nochyu”.
The creative life of the theater became remarkable in 2003 because of foreign tours to Chinese People's Republic, participation in cultural events within frame of Kazakhstan’s Culture Days in Russia.

German Puppet Theater named after Tyubingen with the performance “Flamingo Bar” had been played in November 2005 on the stage of the theater. Berlin Puppet Theater with the play according Brothers’ Grimm “O rybake i ego zhene” (“About fisherman and his wife”) has come in October 2006.  French Puppet Theater “Petrushka” (Paris) has performed its stages “Opasniy kommersant” (“Dangerous merchant”), and “Petrushka-stomatolog” (“Petrushka dentist”) in March 2008.  

The theater is the prize-winner and awardee of international, republic festivals and contests.
The theater has got the following awards since its opening:

• Diploma of international festival in Tashkent for O.Aubakirov’s play “Aldar Kose”, in 1964
• Honorable diploma in Frunze (Bishkek) for  Z.Kabozina’s  play “Kerbakbay”, in 1975
• Diploma for the best performance “Sport i Kozha” of O.Aubakirov  in International festival in Tashkent, in 1979
• I - place winner in festival in Kustanai for the performance “Aibolit”, produced by Honorable artist of RK K.Yeshmuratova, in 1986
• I - place winner in festival in Kustanai for the performance “Zvezdochka”(“Star”), produced by Honorable artist of RK P.Potorok
• “Kanbak Shal”(“Tiny old man”) performance won the prize of sympathy of audience in Petropavlovsk, in 1990
• “Kanbak Shal” (“Tiny  old man”)  performance won Honorable diploma in International festival in Arkhangelsk (Russia), in 1991
• “Kanbak Shal” (“Tiny old man”)  performance won Golden Mask  and diploma in Tehran (Islamic Republic of Iran), in 1994
• Producer of  Puppet theater after S.Obraztsov, S. Trapani’s musical play “Bolshie prikluycheniya malenkogo lyagushonka”(“Big adventures of small frog”)  won the prize of sympathy of audience in Aktau, in 2007
• The theater is recognized by the Republic contest “Vybor Goda” to be the best Theater and won in nomination “The Theater of the Year”, in 2007
